Asylum seeker dies at Curtin detention centre
ABC: The Immigration Department has confirmed a detainee has died at the Curtin detention centre near Derby in Western Australia’s north.
Department spokesman Sandi Logan says the Afghan man was found dead in his accommodation block late this afternoon.
Mr Logan says he cannot confirm a cause of death at this stage.
“Both detainees and detention health services provider staff worked to try and revive him, including administering CPR at the on-site medical centre, but unfortunately they were unable to revive him,” he said.
WA police have been called in and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
