ZARANJ (PAN): At least eight Afghan citizens were wounded when Iranian border police opened fire as they tried to cross the frontier in southwestern Nimroz province, officials said Saturday.
The eight were injured Friday evening and taken to hospital in Nimroz provincial capital, Zaranj, said Kang district police, Muhammad Juma Elmi.
At least two or three Afghans have been killed or wounded by Iranian border police each week, the district chief added.
Nimroz has a long border with the Iranian province of Zabul and the tough terrain makes it hard for police to control the flow of illegal immigrants from Afghanistan.

Sakhi and his travel companions — none of whom had travel documents — had been led by a guide through the border region to Iran.
A week earlier, two Afghan nationals were killed and three others were wounded by Iranian police on the same border.
